Overview


Hainan Airlines is a privately-owned air company in the People’s Republic of China. The airline is also the fourth-largest company in China on the basis of its fleet size and has a leading role when it comes to the airlines’ lowest prices, cheap tickets for domestic and international flights.

Hainan Airlines was founded in October 1989 as Hainan Province Airlines, by then China's first joint-stock air-transport enterprise which began its scheduled services on May 2, 1993. Now, the official name of the company is Hainan Airlines Company Limited (HNA). After a purchase of 25% stake of Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK) in 1998, Hainan Airlines became the first Chinese carrier to own shares in an airport. Since 2000, Hainan Airlines is a part of Hainan Airlines Group, which also controls Shanxi Airlines, Chang'an Airlines and China Xinhua Airlines.

Hainan Airlines’ main base is Haikou, Hainan (People's Republic of China) with hubs at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and several focus cities. Hainan Airlines operates cheap flights on 500 domestic and international routes. The fleet of Hainan Airlines flies to more than 90 cities from Hainan connecting Asia, Europe, America and Africa. This way, Hainan Airlines is providing low-cost tickets for the best flights to Beijing, Berlin, Brussels, Zurich, Seattle, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Bangkok, Singapore and others.

The airline is proving its courage, contributing to society and helping other people by its social responsibility program. Hainan Airlines is supporting social and welfare activities, being positive to that kind of investments and having a clear vision that this is an obligation, and not a voluntary.

Also, the airline’s parent company, the Hainan Airlines Group invests in other airlines, including Beijing Capital Airlines (70%), Lucky Air (67.95%), Zest Airways (about 40%), Tianjin Airlines (20%), Yangtze River Express (51%), Hong Kong Airlines (45%) and Hong Kong Express Airways (45%).

Among other seven air companies, Hainan Airlines is ranked as a 5-star airline by the independent research consultancy firm Skytrax, having been promoted on January 11, 2011.

Hainan Airlines's frequent-flyer program is called Fortune Wings Club.

With its total fleet size of 113 aircraft, operating cheap flights to over 90 destinations, Hainan Airlines maintains its position on the Chinese market. Due to its low airfares, low-cost tickets and cheap flights, the company is in a continuing growth in the eyes of its every-day customers.
