Cheap Finnair Flights (AY)
Overview
Finnair, the flag carrier of Finland and widely recognised as the industry's IT leader, joined oneworld in September 1999. It claims to be the fifth oldest airline in the world, tracing its origins to Aero, established in 1923.
Today, Finnair operates scheduled services to more than 60 destinations in over 30 countries, including 16 points in Finland. In recent years, it has refocused its longhaul operations on Asian routes - with its Helsinki hub ideally located geographically as a gateway between Asia and Europe. It now carries more traffic on these Asian services (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) than on its European network.
Travel Classes:
On its long and medium haul routes, it offers a two-class product:
♦ Business, which is being up-graded to offer lie-flat beds
♦ Economy
Its domestic and shorter international routes offer a single-class service. The airline has retained complimentary in-flight catering for all customers.
Codeshare Partners:
Finnair has anti-trust immunity with American Airlines and code-shares also with British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malév and Qantas.
Beyond oneworld, it has commercial links with Aeroflot, Air China, Air France, Brussels, CityLine, CSA Czech, Finncomm, Golden Air, Icelandair, Lithuanian, LOT, Rossiya, Swiss International Air Lines and Ukraine International.
In 2002, Finnair resurrected the Aero name, when it launched a new airline subsidiary operating out of Tallinn in Estonia. During 2003, it also acquired a controlling stake in Swedish carrier Nordic Airlink, which it has transformed into a low fares carrier to compete with Star's Scandinavian in its home market. Neither of these two subsidiaries are affiliated to oneworld.
